Intimacy News: Is Stress Making You Want to AVOID Being Close?

March 28, 2008 — Dermatologists report that stress can cause many skin-related problems.  These include hair falling out, acne break outs, etc.  Once these stress effects manifest, their appearance can cause even more anxiety.

How does stress affect the skin?  Dermatologists have found that, when you’re stressed out, your body releases a hormone called cortisol.  Increased cortisol levels, in turn, increases oil production, which can cause acne eruptions … even if you have never had acne before!

Has stress been making you self-conscious?  Do you want to hide from people because acne has gotten out of control?  Have stress outbreaks left you feeling un-sexy?  What can you do?

To counter these effects, it is important that you reduce the amount of stress in your life.  Some practical ways to do so include:
1)  Get a good night’s sleep;
2)  Pay attention to breathing deeply and slowly;
3)  Get regular exercise
